Here’s some bits that got cut out of the upcoming Orc Stain trade. About 10 pages in and the end still nowhere near in sight, there was no way I could fit it in/finish it in time.
The story plan started out as a simple orc scavenger idea, then quickly turned into a sweeping western-ish revenge adventure where the main orc gets his body taken over by a rogue ‘marg’ (the fuzzy hat creatures, like what Zazu is). Basically, it gives me the means to expand on what the Nymphs are all about, which I’ve only just glossed over in the main series. I think I’ll eventually turn it into an oversized one-shot at some point… but, y’know, time is a motherbitch.
ORC STAIN 
That’ll be one hell of a killer one shot! Can’t wait to discover more about the orc world.

My vote is that you just make this OS issue #10 and then return us to our normally sceduled orc stain.

I just got through the first ORC STAIN collection and I have to say that it is the best work I’ve read in a long time. In a medium dominated by safe tales of superheroics, it’s refreshing to see a creator taking a chance. Especially when that chance includes prophecies, blood feuds, and orcs snapping off each other’s dongs.

I do hope this is included in the next paperback collection. I’ll buy it from you next time I see you at TCAF (whether next year or the one after). I was the guy with the extremely tiny lettering, if you remember that. š
The first book was quite an enjoyable read. It was one of the really interesting indie/fantasy graphic novels that I bought at TCAF (others were Theo Ellsworth’s “Capacity” and Evan Dahm’s “Rice Boy”). I think it’s pretty neat how it combined some rather inventive ideas (my favourite is the concept of a world in which all technology is “organic”) with story formulas that are tried and tested (something I could also say for “Rice Boy”). For example, you have the rivalry between two characters who keep meeting in unlikely places yet never manage to finish the fight (the first book ends on a bit of cliffhanger, but I bet the rivalry will only be finished when the whole series is close to done). The almost superhero-like main character also reminds me of the main character from Trigun, in that he has the ability to launch a Rube Golbergian sequence of events to achieve any outcome, yet tries not to kill people even when they’re trying to kill HIM, the main difference being that there’s no question that he does it on purpose rather than by accident. It doesn’t seem like any reviewer noticed that connection yet. Am I the first?
